This is all very interesting. Just as a point of interest. My non-JW husband has never been contacted by JW's. And he has lived in areas where there are a lot of them. Never even got literature in his door.
TW
P.S. Funny thing is now he is living with an ex. Tickles his fancy
Keep it up Nelly, it's good for the soul to laugh and you have me laughing out loud while I'm sitting in the house alone at the computer. I can just picture the wooden spoon scene. We always thought my mother was magic and had eyes in the back of her head because she knew everything we did. I like the demon analogy. It's a thought.

nad,
How old are you? One piece of advice. Be yourself, especially with your family. I hid things for many years and then when I finally did get out at the ripe old age of forty, it was and still is a huge shock to my family. They blame everyone and everything but the right reasons, just the simple fact that I don't believe it is the truth anymore.

Larc,
Amazing how not telling all the facts paints a completely different picture.
I knew nothing about the pyramids until about three years ago. I met a lovely couple out in field service who are sincerely trying to save JW's from a cult. They showed me reprints of the WT's about the pyramids. They even called the service desk at Bethel and tried to get orignals. You can imagine how the brother reacted, when he started asking specific questions about their request. When he realized what they were trying to dig up he became irate and hung up on them.
I asked my Dad about the pyramids and got dead silence. He was apparently aware of the history. But did not want to discuss it. It has only been recently that I have seen the articles again, through my husbands research. Which led me to examing many other discrepencies and just downright lunacy.

Why are K halls SMALL???
by philo inwhy are k halls small?.
future increase in members they get no money from the rbc.
i understand all this applies across western europe as well.. * the rbc gets its money from congregation donations within its region and these funds are directed to where the .

Philo,
I don't know the answer for sure. But I do know that all the congregations like to keep their numbers to around 125 or less, provided there are enough elders to go around.
Although especially in cities where land is at a premium it would seem more cost effective to build larger one's and share. And this does actually happen in some places.

Roaming,
That is weird. I have often wondered what they would do if they showed up.
I do have some business contact with some active witnesses. I have not chosen to tell them that I am da'ed. Personally, I don't think it should make any difference. (I'm sure it might though) They have two children who one is now reinstated, but they had contact with her all along. And a son who is grown and currently df'ed and has just come home with his girlfriend for an extended visit. So until they find out I don't feel obligated to inform them. And I probably would do the same if any came to the door. My husband wants to talk to them anyway.

confused
by conflicted ini left the jw's 11 years ago and even though i never looked back i'm constantly concerned about the things i do.
for example, my wife's family is fairly devout in their faith (catholic) and therefore i occasionally have to attend their church, and i am always riddled with guilt upon entering and participating in the services.
also, every time some calamity occurs around the world i am always wondering if "this is the beginning of the end"?

Conflicted,
Welcome. I can definitely relate to your posts. The guilt can be truly debilitating. I da'ed in June of 2000. I left for the basic reason you stated. It didn't feel right. It has been tough, as all my family with the exception of one brother, are still in. He (the one that isn't a Jw has no interest in discussing it, although we talk about other things). But I can tell you for sure, being here has helped me tremendously. I don't feel guilty anymore.
The suggestions the others gave about getting immersed in different things really does work. The more you do the less guilt you feel.
I do feel for you not having anyone to discuss it with. I married a man "in the world". And he has a great grasp on the mindset of JW's that has really helped. Because we can sit and intelligently discuss it. And he gives me a different slant on it. And as for the rest of it, being here has validated me tremendously.
So keep reading and doing. I think you will find it gets a lot better when you can find a peer group who has the same mindset at least in some ways.
